Best Commuting Option - MSY

Hey APC. Sidelined former 135 guy, exploring jump back in to 121 world or any other options that might be good.

Since being out of aviation for a while, I've settled here in New Orleans. Looking at potential options that would be reasonably commutable.

Envoy or Republic look doable, any other thoughts? Thanks.

When Endeavor starts interviewing again (classes are filled way out) they will be the best bet...only regional airline with a commuter policy that includes positive space commuting. Don’t get on your first choice (any airline), just call crew scheduling and they will get you a seat on the next one (Delta),

12 flights a day on Delta and 4 on Southwest to ATL. Additionally, Delta runs about 6 non stops a day to NYC and seasonally they are on Endeavor metal so commuting there until you can hold MSY is feasible.

Did you ever make a decision? If so, who? and why?

When I decide to interview, I'll be commuting from MSY as well.

I’ve heard (though long) MSY to NYC is pretty easy. He said he almost always get FC if not Comfort. MSY to ATL is on the harder side, simply because a lot of mainline guys do it. FO I flew who commutes from there told me

Just seeing this post. I'm a MSY commuter. I did NYC for a few months. I always got a seat and even got 1st a few times. The bad part was when IRROPS hit the NYC area, but I never competed with another pilot. ATL would be very easy though. Sure there are a handful of DL pilots down here, but there are enough flights that as long as you give yourself 2-3 chances, you'll be good. I did IAH and now I do ORD. I too miss the ease of IAH too. Sure I competed with a few mainline United pilots to IAH, but there are plenty of flights if you give yourself a few chances. ORD is okay, but there I miss the frequency of flights I had with IAH. The short 45 mins. to 1 hour makes commuting tolerable. DFW is doable too.

Thanks for the responses.

I'm still out for now. I really haven't found a doable option so far. It's encouraging to hear that it's not bad.

Considering ORD more than I was previously. I probably would be in the industry right now if I didn't have to commute, but right now it seems like just a huge strain no matter what airline I'd apply to. Uprooting the family is definitely not in the cards.
