Quote: § 61.159 Aeronautical experience: Airplane category rating.
(a) [...]
(6) Not more than 100 hours of the total aeronautical experience requirements of paragraph (a) of this section or § 61.160 may be obtained in a full flight simulator or flight training device provided the device represents an airplane and the aeronautical experience was accomplished as part of an approved training course in parts 121, 135, 141, or 142 of this chapter.

Do you think that sim time in a Redbird FMX during an approved Part 135 training course counts towards mins?

The FAA has approved it as an Advanced Aviation Training Device.

Right from Redbird's website. That time will not count for the 100 hours.

Unless you were in an AATD or higher as apart of like a 141 program, you can't count the sim hours. We've been told when reviewing log books that yall can only get the benefit of the 6 hours of sim at CTP, but that's it. Keep in mind you can only substitute 25 hours towards certain experiences anyways.

**Update** Received some clarification on using the sim time

ATP-CTP curriculum for Sim time calls for, "10 hours of simulator training – intended to prepare the applicant to operate safely in those operations which require an ATP. Of the 10 hours of simulator training, six (6) hours must be completed in a Level C or higher full flight simulator"

ATP Part 61: Will need at least 40-44 hours ME (10hrs@L3 CTP/12hrs@RPA CTP)

R-ATP Part 141: They (FAA too I think) feels that adequate and quality training has occurred therefore they are ok with 141 hires of 25 ME and allowing the completion of 25ME time in the sims.

Quote: Gonna go with a hard no on this. FTD time counts for effectively nothing.
This is totally incorrect. Level 4 and up FTD time can be credited towards ATP TT minimums provided that FTD time was obtained while enrolled in a course approved under 135, 121, or 142. To that point, the FAA requires you to record the FAA ID # of the FTD in your logbook.

This is correct, BUT the Indy FSDO and Republic flight training center doesn’t accept anything under a level 6 to count towards your total time.

So what’s the deal. If I do the cadet program and lets say I only have 25ME, doing the FTI, will republic just put me in the level D sim for 25 more hours ME?

The sim is around $1k/hr. You run out of your bonus money before you hit 25 hours in the sim.

FTI means they will pay for up to 100 hours for any requirements you need.

Let’s say you have 25 hours of multi time already, you will get 25 MORE multi time in the training sims for the 170/175. That does not come out of your bonus and is not apart of FTI.

Let’s say you needed 10 hours to get to 25 total multi timehours, then you will find a flight school and Republic will pay up front for the hours required and take it out of the back end of your bonus.

Just a heads up, you can only get 6 hours credited via Sims without an r-ATP from a certified school. You will need 44 before starting the CTP class, 6 in the CTP class will count to get to 50. This differs from a lot of other regionals but these are the requirements for Republic.

They said this is subject to change, but that's how it is implemented at the moment.
