Jump Seat question

I don't commute so I am rusty at this. My United Flight to Grand Cayman may fill up. If so, looking to buy tickets on AA from IAH-MIA-GCM.

Question: Any problems with Jump Seating out of domestic to international destination?

Also, how does one list for the jump seat on AA?

Thank You

You can FDJ on international flights as long as you work for AA or one of the wholly owned. Call the 888 number to list for the FDJ or use newjetnet (travel planner) to list for the back. Keep in mind the FDJ seat is on first come first serve bases. Sooner you list the better. If you’re thinking of buying tickets don’t forget to use the 20% off.

Go to newjetnet >> travel >> travel guide. Should answer all your questions.

If you work for another carrier you may also jumpseat if there is a passenger seat available for your use in the back as long as your airline reciprocates

Not really in relation to the OP, but in relation to jump seat/commuting. As a west coast living new hire that hasn't started class yet, hypothetically if all the western bases were scooped up before I got to pick equip/base, what would be the better/easier commute to the east coast of normal bases offered to new hires: DC, LGA, MIA?

I know movement and all should get me back to the west coast before too long, but looking for insight on the above.

Thanks

I did west coast (PDX) to LGA for a month. It went relatively smooth considering the distance. Connecting through ORD had plenty of options.

I would be commuting from Phoenix, looks like Miami and DC have direct flights, but not so much to LGA. Seems like that would be more problematic for LGA yes? Or because MIA and DCA serve other airports around there too(if I recall correctly), it's all same same? Just trying to see all the possible options as they are. Any reasons to choose one over the others with the eventual goal to get back out west ASAP anyway?

LAX 737 typically falls to the bottom of most new hire classes. If you’re the youngest in your class and pick last, and there’s no LAX 737 left, just bid any 737. You’ll most likely be able to get to LAX before you finish OE, via either Mutual Base Exchange or a Vacancy bid. Same scenario on the 320, but perhaps slightly longer to transfer.

Bumping this thread to ask a question related to the original post..

I'm a WO pilot planning to nonrev PHL-LIS roundtrip in a couple months. Is PHL-LIS a 3-crew trip and if so is riding the FDJ even a possibility with a 3 pilot crew onboard? Operating type is the B763 if it matters.

I'd hate to be stuck on the FDJ for such a long flight, but I'm game if that's what it comes down to.

I've also never asked for the JS on an international flight. Are there any extra hoops to jump through beyond the typical JS request practices?

Thanks in advance.

767 as 2 FDJ so it doesn't matter. The process is the same as domestic Jumpseating for AA and WO.
