Looking for some insight/advice if any on the SAV to EWR commute. I am currently stationed in Savannah but will be applying to Republic shortly. Reading the threads makes it seem EWR will be the easiest commutable line as a junior FO.

Savannah has 3 flights a day to EWR but unsure how full they are or if it is possible to count on a jump seat each time. I could always fly to ATL to catch a flight if needed but want to avoid a 2 leg commute.

The second option is to move to ATL and commute to one of the domiciles.

Just a quick note about your possible 2-leg commute through ATL. The SAV-ATL leg is all Delta mainline and from my experiences operating some of those flights, it would be a very tough option for you. We’ve got a lot of commuters out of there.

Thank you for the heads up. I guess my other option would be drive to Charleston since Republic operates a few flights in and out.

SAV-CLT and SAV-DCA often have lots of open seats on American Eagle flights.

You can also consider LGA. Also 3 flights a day, plus you could always commute in to JFK with 4 flights a day and then Uber/Lyft or air train it to your crash pad.

How is the commute from JFK to LGA? Looks like it takes an hr by subway and bus. What about JFK to EWR?

Does LGA have lines starting later in the day and ending early in the afternoon?

They're both doable using public transportation, with JFK-LGA being a lot easier (and cheaper) than JFK-EWR.

JFK-LGA involves taking the AirTrain, subway E line to Jackson Heights, and the Q70 bus to LGA. One hour sounds realistic, but when using any MTA service you should always plan for double the normal time.

I think the best option to go to EWR from JFK would be taking the AirTrain to Jamaica, LIRR to Penn Station, Amtrak or NJ Transit to the Newark airport station, and then the EWR AirTrain. Plan for at least an hour and a half.

Do the lines out of LGA start later in the morning allowing a commuter to fly in the same morning?

Some do, but with the large number of RON (remain overnight aircraft...sometimes as many as a dozen and a half a night), there’s plenty of early shows.
