Has anyone gone through the special issuance process for HIMS recently? I am just trying to get an idea of how backed up the faa is. My application has been in OKC for 8 weeks and is still "under review". From what I understand, for a 1st class, it still has to go to DC.

When I served on our HIMS committee (15+ years ago), 8 weeks or more was considered routine. The reasons for this were not clear.

I've heard a rumor that the head shrink is off with med problems of his own. That may be holding things up too.

I had a stroke two years ago and OKC said I could start my SI application process after May 1, 2018. I sent all my paperwork in mid May and OKC asked for additional CPAP information about 7 weeks later. That information was submitted a couple of days later. Now going on 12 weeks and still getting the "it's still under review", hopefully we will both hear something soon. Good luck.

i wondered if that gets routed through a different process/different doctors due to it being a stroke and mine was for HIMS..either way, I think 12 weeks is insane amount of time to wait..are you going for a 1st class?

SI
I was having similar problems with the SI first class issuance time-line. What worked for me was to contact my congressman. You'll probably need to fill out a medical info release and explain the situation.... again. However, within about a week of his office contacting the FAA, the FAA was calling me and offering to fax my newly issued medical to me. I know it sounds strange, but it worked well for my situation.
Safe fkyng everyone!

I would STRONGLY recommend AGAINST bringing congressionals into play. Either going through your regional flight surgeon or calling OKC directly may (or may not) speed things up. But it won't slow it down or get it refused. The FAA takes great pride in NOT taking $h.. from Senators or Congressmen. You DO NOT want to get in the crossfire. You may THINK you do, but trust me, you don't.

Yea, I'm pretty sure mine is a little more in depth as I had to send in a pack of medical papers about 6" thick, from several different medical professions. I made sure that each medical area was placed in a seperate envelope of it own and everything was well labeled, per the FAA guidelines and dated as to when the test or procedure was done. I pretty sure that there are several examiners that will have to review the packet, but in total it will now be close to five months since it was first mailed in. From what I gathered from the letters I received, it looks like they may not even start to review the packet until they have everything that they think they want. Once I do receive the ok for OKC then I can continue on with my first class medical exam.

Are you using Aero medical in Denver? Or going it alone to the FAA?
