I encourage the moderators to MODERATE this thread. It has digressed into a very dark space. The legacies of those killed deserve so much better than this. There of course will be litigation over this accident and some of these comments are fodder.
Everything is possible, few things are plausible.
We should stick to what is plausible.

Quote: This accident has shown just how small the aviation world is. Think most of us have flown in the past week with multiple crew members whom personally known one of the fallen. I know I have.

So. Much. This.

Although I don’t know anyone involved, I do know some that have died and the few that have lived through devastating aviation mishaps.

While I think it’s completely healthy to talk about aviation accidents ( they may keep the rest of us alive), let’s not MF this crew.

Quote: What if someone flunks out on ability and sues to get back in based on gentics? Then marching orders come from up top and weeding is forbidden. What's your take then?

To be clear, I believe there is fault on more than one side in that scenario. As well as external factors which are becoming too significant.

It happens, let’s not kid ourselves. Regardless of race, gender, whatever, it happens. This is not the profession for the thin skinned.

Quote: Atlas Air is hiring weak pilots of all races from many different countries right now. They'll literally hire anyone who the FAA will allow. That's really more of a problem than the race of the pilot in question.

Some of these pilots are good. Some aren't but will become good with experience. Some will never develop. Companies with better contracts will pick over the good ones and the ones who develop...
Yeah, and HR hired all of them. No sim, no decision from a pilot. A non aviator, who chooses who flies a wide body in a highly technical profession that they know next to nothing about. What could go wrong?

And where did race come into this? Was someone insinuating this. Was one of the pilots not white?

Ok.... Lets just say a lawsuit is going to be filed by the jumpseaters family.. all the talk of the drivers ability and what a previous checkairman supposedly has said about a persons ability now you think a lawyer wont subpeona the records of this site and track that person down and depose them.
Facts are on thing....speculation and conjecture is something totally different... now we have digressed into HR retaining a pilot based on fear of being sued for racial discrimination.... SMH. Moderators please moderate!!
Now you are alleging gross negligence. This will be hard to prosecute. Hope the family finds an attorney to take the case pro bono.

Attorneys will do a broad sweep when they start suing. Most defendants are insured and will settle. No need for pro bono. The attorneys will make millions.

The lawyers will find out...maybe it's a good thing this is coming to light.

If what is being talked about is found to be true, the repercussions are pretty significant. Atlas is fortunate this didn't hit a crowded suburban or urban area and kill a lot of people on the ground too.
