Does anyone do it? My first choice of regionals will be west coast based but in the event I get the east coast or elsewhere, has anyone on here been doing the commute grind from PDX? What are my options? Cargo flights or passenger jump seats to get me to base? Thanks!

Plenty of flights to various places. But I'm pretty sure it's a senior base for AS, QX, and OO. And Sun Country is opening a base too?

I would think most of the folks based there would want to live there... eventually if they can't hold it now. There are a lot of folks who commute to other bases, so you might get traffic in both directions.

Pending on where you’re going PDX can be a tough commute. If you’re going to SEA then it’ll be pretty hard. Tons of employees always going back and forth for Alaska/Delta.

Compass does quite a few flights a day to SEA and our planes have 3 jumpseats to choose from so getting a ride is not a problem. We have plenty of PDX commuters. Super easy.

I think Compass or Horizon would be my best options. I was looking on flight tracker and it seems pretty impossible for me to get to Philly or Dayton or Cincinnati if I worked at PSA.

Cincinnati would be pretty easy with Atlas or whatever freight operator is currently doing that run.

But why in the world would anyone want to do that for half a decade at least?

This...I've commuted across 3 time zones. It's something I would never do again nor recommend to anyone. Gone 2-3 weeks straight because RSV and didn't have enough time to go home only to sit in a crashpad with 13 other people and barely fly. I never wanted to quit so bad.

I’ve been commuting from PDX to SEA and MFR with Horizon. I’ve never missed a flight, and have rarely sat in the jump. We get priority on Horizon flights as a registered commuter between your base and home. I think it would be pretty easy for you to go with either Horizon or Compass. Latest vacancy bid had some pretty junior people getting PDX on the Q400, so you may not have to commute that long. That is, if you don’t mind sitting reserve and barely flying for your first year.
