Quote: How’s the transportation while at training? Is everything close or would a rental car or Uber be needed every day?
Travel is covered. Hotel is covered. Transportation to and from training should be hotel shuttle.

PM me and I can give you the hotel name. If its the same one I had when I went through 2 years ago there is a Walmart right next door you can walk to. Also a decent amount of restaurants you can walk to and from. To the training center and back the hotel will take you,

About half my class had a vehicle so we car pooled to and from which came in handy. Especially during IPT's when you get assigned a time like if you were in simulators.

No one needed an uber between classmates with cars and the hotel van.

If you have to drive 12 hours to have a car ... drive 12 hours. You don’t NEED it, but it’s really nice to have

If you’re at the hotel in Troy and get stuck with the really late night or early morning IPTs, then you may want a car so that you’re not at the mercy of the shuttle driver. Otherwise, whether you’re in Vandalia or Troy, you’re next to a Walmart and a short walk to restaurants and bars.

For new hire, highly highly highly recommend having your own vehicle. Yes, they will provide most transportation, but to have some liberty to come and go as you please goes a long way. You may need to go blow off steam, or hit the store. Also, once you get into a study routine, you can hit up the training center 24 hours. So, having my vehicle, my partner and I would goto the training center for a few hours after hours and study up before and after dinner. It really helped out.

This was years ago, but we were placed in Troy for our IPTs (I think now called SIPs). It was a pain, so I flew home one weekend and drove the 8 hours up to have a car. Made the world of a difference, because we had the very late show.

Always suggest packing a shoulder pad. Makes cow tipping easier. Less likely to strain something.

Any trip through Indoc or upgrade that doesn’t include a day at the AF Museum should be an automatic fail, in my opinion.

Just one more reason to bring a car.
