Amazon continues to take over the world...

“The NFL announced earlier today that Thursday Night Footballwill be televised exclusively on Amazon Prime starting with the 2022 season.”

They payed the NFL $1.2B for the exclusive rights. That’s about 0.2% of their annual revenue. Yikes!

Big money in sports. FedEx pays a pretty penny to the PGA, sponsors a nascar team, and has naming rights on a couple stadiums.

True, but FedEx annual revenue is only about 1/5th of Amazon’s.

Different investment therefore not in the same lane. FedEx is advertising regarding the sporting events, Amazon is selling a service, a service people pay to actually witness the event. (And solely advertise within its domain as well).

Air Cargo like FedEx, UPS, etc are purely lateral movement, nothing created, nothing sold is tangible but the containers. Amazon, Walmart, Alibaba, etc create, expand, provide, services as horizontal entities and distributors. Next decade will be mind numbing, heck next 5 years will be significant.

And now, starting next year, we’re the primary sponsor for the UEFA Champions League. If you’re not a European soccer fan... this is huge. Biggest club tournament in the world.

No loss for me. I have had no use for the NFL since they rejected veterans:

AMVETS AD

The NFL rejected a Super Bowl program ad from a veterans group

I didn’t know that. That’s pretty cool. I’m not a big soccer fan, but do enjoy watching the big matches.
