Maybe getting ahead before the big hit. The media always hates us and when we fire hundreds (or thousands) and send many more on unpaid leave we’ll be hated all over the country. The media loves to hate United too.

I had a similar question last year about the CEO of a major high tech company. Made me nervous. Fortunately, my investment firm checked and provided me a copy of the required form he submitted. There was a valid reason. It was believable and verifiable to even my skeptical mind. Had nothing to do with lack of confidence in his company. I think it was buying a multimillion dollar second residence. Sorry I don’t remember any more details. Don’t hate on me for not remembering.

Chances are that they have a 10b5 plan. They basically have to determine sales triggers well ahead of time to sell any shares, I.e. it’s not tied to any particular event / insight they may have recently acquired. It is often the only option to sell as an insider.
