Keep in mind half the reason wide body flying is so junior at UAL is due to Covid and the lack of flying we have . For argument sake we could go back to pre Covid flying , wide body will most likely go back to the senior folks who’ve done it since day one .


many many many guys are skipping wide body and upgrades cause of life style choices , that prob won’t stay like this forever .

Its looking like 5+ years to get Group 4 FO pay at AA. In the next 8 months AA will be hiring 1440- 2240 pilots who aren’t you. Many of which will be younger than you and may prevent you from being a Group 4 CA at AA. Or a commuting Group 4 CA. You’ll be able to be a 767 CA at United in approximately 8-10 years and a 787 CA in 18-20.
What is your estimate to hold a line as 76/78 Fo?

Holy cow! What is the cause of such slow progression to the left seat of a wide body? Seems like with all the retirements and crappy international layovers due to Covid that would have dropped considerably.

But since you asked I say flow to AA take the money then go to to another legacy after that if you don't like how it looks at AA. I'm not sure you should feel like you missed the boat because you waited 8 months and 1000 people got hired ahead of you. Unless another catastrophe happens the legacy airlines will drain the regional pilots and most of the ULCC within 5 years. There's plenty more hiring and movement coming up. I'd say ask yourself what you want from your career and where you want to live. Find an airline that matches your goals. Other than that the legacy airlines are basically the same.
We still really are not out of the current catastrophe, and another one will happen in 5-10 years tops. So probably better to get a senior # cooking sooner.

Seems like very rapid progression to me. Right now over 14 years won’t hold 756 Captain anywhere in the system.

We (AA) led the pack in terms of widebody tails parked. Straight vertical cuts in 7ER and A330 fleets. Gone. Fin. After that, we have 14(?) 78’s sitting on the Boeing lot, to be delivered...sometime in the future.
So yeah, the net effect has been bifurcation of the NB vs WB CA seniority numbers. NB will continue to edge lower (always someone willing to jump on that LGA grenade), but until long haul intl recovers enough to warrant a new purchase order, this is not the WB airline it was two years ago, not even close.
Today’s seniority calculator says I’ll be on property 18 years before I get a look at WB CA. ...in NY of course (pass).

That post is somewhat misleading also. The 756 category is inclusive of the 767-400 which pays at WB rates. You may upgrade in the 756 in a shorter timeframe than the 78/77, but being able to hold trips on the 767-400 is about the same as the timeline for the other WBs. So, in the end, it’s still a loooong time.

Hijacking the thread a little but I’m curious about general feeling of what best NYC airline is. I’ve got interviews at AA, UAL, and DAL. Yes I know I might not get all three but a little speculation never hurt. Seems like on the surface AA would trail the other 2. Delta seems like a slightly better run airline but United has all the wide bodies. Anyone made this decision lately.

I'm in the same boat. DL appears to be dominant in NYC. UA not too far behind with a lot of international flying, and aggressive growth.

AA appears to be figuring things out at the moment. Staffing, WB and A321XLR deliveries might change the landscape. Or not...

can’t really go wrong. To be honest all things being equal I would go to United if you live south or west of the city (easier EWR commute), DeIta if you live in the city or on Long Island/Connecticut.
