Putting this article here since the Fractional Pilots tend to see HTO quite a bit. The local politicians want to make HTO private, PPR required so of course the local wealthy can still have their jets come in to pick them up. But the FAA just threw a major wet blanket over their plans. Closing and reopening an airport opens a major can of worms and is going to be VERY expensive for the locals and take years to get done. I didn't care for flying into HTO but I like even less these airports trying to restrict traffic because Thurston and Lovey don't like the noise.

Update article, decision makers at HTO have delayed the closing/reopening as private until May 17th. Those of us that have witnessed the speed at which the FAA moves know how well that date will hold up.

Even if/when this happens...fees will be bumped up most likely and PPR approved. Can't really see a denial unless it's an O-dark arrival/dept. But hey! No more late finishes or 0230 wake ups for the fractional dudes/dudettes; at least in HTO. Or, this will happen, HTO will wither on the vine and FOK will see a bump in traffic.
