QR Code/URL Scheme for Jepp FD Pro?

Subscribe
Hi all,

I am attempting to create an automation that will pull information from a flight plan and open Jeppesen Flite Deck Pro X (FD Pro X) OR FD Pro (doesn't have to be X) with the airports, route, and charts already selected.

Their manual suggests that their app can accept URL Schemes (Equivalent of entering a URL into safari to open another app), and/or QR Codes to do the same thing. Does anyone currently use either of these? And if so, would you mind providing a sample?

Their instructions are extremely vague in providing guidance on this so any tips/experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try this link to a QR that should load into Jepp FD: http://api.qrserver.com/v1/create-qr...=400x400&ecc=L

This is the URL: flitedeckx.jeppesen://route?partner_id=DeltaAirlines&partner_app=DeltaAp p&pod=EHAM&poa=KSLC&rte=BERGI+AMGOD+L602+SUPUR+P1+ GIGUL+N44+UPNAL+RIXUN+66N010W+70N020W+72N040W+72N0 60W+NADMA+67N080W+63N090W+60N095W+56N100W+55N101W+ 50N105W+GGW+BIL+JAC+NORDK6&alt=KGJT+KRST+BIKF+CYFB +EGPK&etp=N63.06167+W5.54+EGPK+BIKF&etp=N72.23167+ W46.906666+BIKF+CYFB&eep=N70.833336+W26.166666&exp =N63.0+W90.0&sig=Cp1sXBJV0xJwIsbMSJ1FvgE0H8kOKL0yr j0U34FNnCA%3D

You can also use the link as a link within the flight plan. Notice the end with “sig=“. This is a signature that must be generated for each route. I don’t know of this has to be passed through a Jepp server or how this is generated. However, unless you can create this signature, creating the link or QR appears to be impossible. I am very disappointed with Jeppesen for adding this signature part.

Note that it is possible to do this in Foreflight without needing a signature. I am on my iPad commuting home and I will post an example later.

For comparison, Foreflight does not require a digital signature.

Here is a link for a QR code to load a route into ForeFlight: http://api.qrserver.com/v1/create-qr...=400x400&ecc=L

This is the URL if the route were added as a link: foreflightmobile://maps/search?q=APT@EHAM%20BERGI%20AMGOD%20L602%20SUPUR%2 0P1%20GIGUL%20N44%20UPNAL%20RIXUN%206600N01000W%20 7000N02000W%207200N04000W%207200N06000W%20NADMA%20 6700N08000W%206300N09000W%206000N09500W%205600N100 00W%205500N10100W%205000N10500W%20GGW%20BIL%20JAC% 20NORDK6%20APT@KSLC

The history of the QR code goes back to when internet connectivity could not be assured. I remember being in PVG (Shanghai) and I would tip the girl at the noodle shop in the terminal to get the response to the WiFi sign in with her Chinese telephone number so that I could get on the internet. Without an internet connection, the only way to get the route into Jepp FD without internet connectivity was to type it in. The QR code was a quick way of getting the route from the paper flight plan into the tablet. We were using the Surface and Jeppesen even incorporated a QR reader in the Windows version of Jepp FD.

We now have cellular iPads with worldwide coverage, so the QR code is no longer needed. However, the way the QR code works on the iPad is that it is just a URL. The URL scheme supports the QR code, but more importantly, it supports creating a link in the flight plan to open the e-mail. Much to my disappointment and frustration, Jeppesen created this requirement for the digital signature in each link. I hope that Jeppesen eventually eliminates the requirement for the electronic signature.

Well apparently I had notifications turned off so I’m just reading all of these replies now.

, I tried out that link and sure enough it does not work as each link needs that signature. What a shame.

what are you thoughts? I’m open to trying anything.

is there a published API document for these fields?
also, how would one get the signature/key?

There is not. I contacted Jepp about this and finally got a rep who seemed knowledgeable about it. He said that it is a paid service option and your company has to pay for it. That's not to say you could use trial and error to maybe figure out a way to get the app to take a URL scheme or API request, but he pretty much told me "ask your company to pay for the service then I can help you out more".
