Most ‘accidents’ are not accidental but the result of someone making a mistake.
The remainder are truly accidental as no one made a mistake and everyone did what they were supposed to do and still the holes in the cosmic cheese lined up.
This may very well be one of the latter.

And school buses, kids don’t even know how to look both ways anymore. Parents meet them at the bus and escort them to house.

When I was growing up in California, there was no school bus to my high school because it was about 1.5 miles each way, and busses were only provided for 2 miles or more. Now the school bus stops three times on my street alone, and it’s only 3 blocks long.

And no, it wasn’t uphill both ways and there was no snow and I had good shoes.

I was in Europe last week and heard a story about a local American expat parent who was chastised by the school for walking a kid to Kindergarten. "All children will do it on their own" was the school's stance. I guess there is hope, but maybe not in the US.

I did walk about 3 miles each way, in snow, to JHS. In fairness it was only uphill one direction.

I did it for a while in athletic shoes, which got wet and cold. Finally wised up and wore boots, and carried the shoes for sports in a backpack.

When I was in 5th and 6th grade, we were school crossing guards on a busy, narrow, hilly two lane collector road. The only thing that protected us was an orange diagonal strap across our chest and around our waist. We stopped traffic regularly and safely. No adults were around. Never had an accident. That was in the 1960s.

My voluntary tour of duty was about 25 days during those two years.

Karen wasn't doing 45 in a 25 in a SUV, while drinking a grande triple frapp with one hand, applying makeup with the other, and steering with her knee.

Not one but two kids just got creamed at the crosswalk at my kid's school. On Monday of this week.

Actually my kid did crosswalk guard in middle school, but they use stop signs on long poles so they didn't have to use their bodies to try to get karen to slow down.
