can an IPC be done in a single engine airplane if a person only holds an ATP with a multi engine rating?
Trying to dig into the 61.57 (d) and also AC 61-98D but to no avail…

Are we to understand you hold no SE authorizations? No Comm. SEL/Instrument airplane?

Asking for a friend, but yes you’re correct. Nothing SEL, only ATP MEL.

Instrument currency/IPC is category specific, not class specific.

So as long as you're legal to fly the ASEL, by virtue of having a CFI/PIC on board you can do an IPC.

That's for an IPC, obviously not for initial IR checkride in AMEL... the checkride has AMEL specific tasks.

If you maintain currency in a ASEL that applies to AMEL and vice versa.
