im going to say gufstream on this one........remember, most citations dont require 2 crewmembers, so any corprate job you would find on a citation your most likely going to be the only pilot, and with your time your more likely to be insureable as FO on a gulfstream than Captain on a citation

Although most Citations have the capability of being operated single pilot, the majority of operators here in the US fly them with two pilots simply because it's often cheaper to do than to pay the significantly higher training/insurance premiums. (If you can get insured at all).

Quote: Umm, Being that this thread originated back in '05, Vader is probably a regional captain by now.

It would be interesting, though, if he checked in and let us know what path his career took.....

LOL!!!! jesus man, i didnt even notice that! that is what happens when you try and talk and make sense after being up 20 somewhat hours.....

True dat on the citation comment. I know of a corporation with 7 citation bravos that has low-ish time FOs to reduce insurance costs. Since they pay their FOs on a callout, indep. contractor basis ($700 per diem flat rate callout whether you fly 1 hr or max duty), they basically save tons on insurance premiums, because a) they don't have to pay for the FO unless the plane is flying, and b) their insurance savings is probably much much greater than $700 per 1-8 hours of operation.

I think the Citation rating offers the most use to you to build time. As mentioned Gulfstream jobs are dream jobs, usually offered to high time flyers and nephews of the CEO. The Citation type may be relatively cheap compared to others $5K-6K...but who among us that is just starting out has that kinda dough laying around.

The Citation is an honest jet, and if you've never flown jets before offers a great transitions from props to jets.

Best of Luck...keep us informed of what you decide and how training is going.

You need a citation or preferebly a Hawker type rating to land a job with your level of experience. What you are going to need soon is Jet time to stay competitive with the young guys at the regionals.

For a Global or G-V position, they want some serious experience, to include int'l experience and most places require anywhere from 300-500 hours on type for an F/O position. I've been told over and over, a type rating without actual time in the airplane is not worth much. If you get the type, and you go three to four years without actually flying the thing, then it becomes almost useless. Unless you know some company VIP, or the chief pilot is your uncle, a G-V type is going to sit on your dresser doing nothing. Get something you can use.

(ps- there are many Hawker jobs outhere)

Navajo31 thanks for the reminder.
Well, after looking into every possible FSA SIC internship programs at the time, the Centers that I was interested in (Cessna in MCO and Lear ATL) weren't available and I had to wait at least 4 months for a slot. So, I ended up Instructing at ERAU for a while and got picked up by a regional. I'm still an FO (3-5 years from upgrading) and hoping to move on to Net Jets at some point.

Mrsmith42e, pay and benifits at ERAU are far more superior to a CFI job at FSA.

CAC737 and FlyerJosh, like always I couldn't agree more.

Wow, might be a record for "longest lasting thread". Not even any flame-throwers out there.

All who are new should look at the reality this person has faced. I know circumstances had an impact, but this is more like reality than many new to the biz seem to realize.

Good luck Vader. Its a marathon, not a sprint.
