AFAIK the FAA isn't going to allow Skywest to do scheduled charters. Not unless some politicians have applied some heat to the FAA.

Contour Airlines does it in the east coast for AA. Totally legal.

Kinda funny when everyone goes berserk about SkyWest going part 135 when Contour has been doing essentially the same things for years.

Contour, Key Lime, etc all do it. Key Lime with a pretty lousy safety record... why would/should SkyWest be treated any different?

I briefly read thru the FAR and thought it couldn't be scheduled service. But I guess as long as there's 30 seats or less they can do it.

Yes, you can have scheduled part 135. As you've mentioned, the rules are quite a bit more stringent.
