Question for you Fifi flyers. Do you get to experience direct law in the same during your initial training on the type?

If so, how ugly and difficult is it?

It's not a big deal if you stay in the envelope. The bigger deal was that it got into DL in the first place.

I got into direct law because they were in alternate law and out the gear down. If you can’t fix the issue that caused alternate law then you’re eventually going to be in direct law unless you plan on belly landing.

That's just for pitch, not bank and yaw, and you still have all the other alt law protections. Not the same as full monty DL.

A321, nice work getting it on the ground uneventfully. Sounds like airplane induced, not operator induced.

Alternate law is very rare, and takes more than one thing going wrong... direct law is downhill from there. I don't know and have never heard of anyone personally who's been in direct law.
How about instead of Direct Law, you have "No Law"

Smartlynx in Estonia some years ago had an eventuful training flight:

"At this point, the aircraft had L+R ELEVATOR FAULT (ELAC 1 PITCH FAULT, ELAC 2 PITCH FAULT, SEC1 and SEC2 lost control in pitch), pitch control in MECHANICAL BACKUP MODE, roll in DIRECT LAW, yaw in ALTERNATE LAW, engines 1 and 2 damaged from the impact, engine 2 on fire, flaps inoperative (FLAPS LOCKED)"
