Busboy, I have asked many of our ACP's for this for many years. We already have an existing set of digital ID photos in the system that could be used on the secure, encrypted side of our pilot.fedex.com web site. I keep hearing it's a privacy issue. Well, my argument to that is let the individual pilot opt out if he's worried about another crewmember seeing his photo. We already have that capability for calendars and phone numbers. Plus any swinging ramp agent at any station can pull up our mugs but we aren't allowed to see them.
I have often recognized a name of an ill or deceased crewmember but couldn't put a face with the name. A photo may have made the difference on whether I would have sent a card, money or other condolences to the family.
About a year ago one of our Airbus F/O's who flew SIBA a lot passed away due to cancer. While we couldn't see his picture the passionate people at OPs in Paris put a nice page with a color picture up on their bulletin board for all to see. I saw it and immediately recognized him as someone I had seen many times in Paris Ops and in the AOC. Had I not seen the picture he was just a familiar name with no face.
I suggest we do as the UPS pilots do and put something on our MEC web site. UPS recently lost a Captain to cancer a few days ago and the union put up a nice web page on their web site with a biography on the pilot including his picture.
