How difficult is it to get an intership in the flight operations department? I am a commercial pilot with low time and would not be planning on applying for a prestigous flight job with them untill about 5 years from now when my turbine pic time will be built. Would it be a good idea to intern (if I am lucky enough to be picked) if I will not be ready to apply for 5+ years from now? Also, would anyone have information on where the internships are held? I am located in southern california. Any help would be appreicated!

Nick, I beleive that any flight ops job would be in DAL as I have never seen an intern at a base cheif pilot's office. Best wishes.

Nick, I'm sure if you worked hard and did well that it would be a good thing. I have never interned but I think that there are several on this forum that have. Perhaps some of the internees could chime in with some advice. I feel that if SWA is the only place you want to work, then it would surely document your desires. I can't imagine that you wouldn't be able to dazzel them at an interview with that experience. Keep us posted.

You would probably be better off working part time on the ramp or in ops for them. We in cactusland have had many people come in from other places in the company , some with minimum time (1500 to 2000 hrs). I know of 3 captains that started as flight attendents years ago.
