I'm sure this has been discussed here, but I searched and couldn't find it.

For those of you who have gone to class at United, what's the pay situation in training? Is training in DEN? Do they put you up or are you on your own? What bases/equipment are people getting?

You get paid the 70 hour guarantee at $31.66 an hour. No Perdiem, you pay for the hotel, training is in Denver, and the first class is next Monday. (10 airbus, 10 guppy...all to DCA).

There is a website that has a bunch more info...they will send you the user name and password with the job offer letter.

Oh my... you have got to be kidding me? They dont pay for your hotel room?? What about Per Diem, they have to pay that right? I have flown for some of the worst dirt bag carriers out there and even they paid for your hotel room. And whats with the RJ-like pay rates? I never thought that I would say this but it sounds like qualified guys may not be able to afford going to United. Here is a quick math check:

Monthly pay- $2,216.2
After 18% Tax- 1,817.12
Split a $80 hotel room with a buddy that snorze all nite - $1,200
Whats left to send home to the wife not including food - $617.12

Even if the pay per diem your most likely going to drink and it and eat it anyway.

FWIW every crappy regional I've ever worked at at least paid for the hotel, even if you didn't get guarantee or perdiem in training. Almost every regional now pays for everything.

Guess the majors figure qualified pilots are a surplus and it's a seller's market. They may be surprised to learn how many qualified pilots interview and turn THEM down because they can't afford it.

Has UAL always been that cheesy? In the boomdays I guess it was easier to ignore because you likely could have held captain by year four and everything was coming up roses (notwithstanding the dotcom relaities of passenger carrier financials that nobody wanted to acknowledge). In the '80's, UseLess Air paid for the room...Tilton would likely say that's why they went Chapter 11 before UAL...

The two non-scheds I flew for years back at least paid for hotel during training. Maybe Tilton could reduce his undeserved bonus 1% and buy the newhires that he will scavenge off of a hotel room and a Subway sandwich once a day.

What a tremendous fall from grace...

I'm at AA. But, if I was 40yrs or younger, i'd go to UAL if offered a job. Yeah, it's sucks that right now they're not paying for room and per diem.

If you can get through the 1st year on credit cards and are under 40 yrs old,
the future is looking better for the Legacy carriers.

Pay for a Hotel or pay for a 737 type and try to get on at SWA.

Hey, I was a commuter/regional guy. I remember lots of guys that couldn't afford to try for the majors due to large house payments, kids, heroin addiction (just kidding).

But if you can, even UAL which has no domestic duty rigs right now, but will get better on their next contract, I think it'd be a great move.

But hey, i stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Funny, met a bunch of new hires at the Double Tree last night on a DEN overnight at the bar. Money didn't seem to be a problem when the tab came. Lot's of credit cards flying around.

Good bunch of guys nontheless.
