Skywest Update
Beer30,

I am told that classes "should" start by the end of January or end of February.
Stay tuned, They'll have another update on what's goin' on next week. But for now, just hang in there and spend your Holidays with your family. Merry Christmas.

Do you have an inside source?
C-style,

The last I heard from Cassidy was classes in early Jan, but that was over a month ago. I also heard that we'd get an update in mid Dec. Do you have an inside source, with other information? I'm sure you saw the two Delta RJs added to the Skywest web site. This is good news for us; if they have airplanes arriving in Mar, they'll need to start training in Jan.

See you in class, Merry Christmas,

Apply as soon as you meet all of the minimum requirements. They are very firm on the minimums and won't budge on the multi or instrument time either. I've been at SkyWest almost six years and don't know if things have changed but plenty of people get hired without an internal recommendation (if not most).

As far as classes/staffing go we are currently very heavy on reserves in SLC and DEN. Additionally, there may be some more cutbacks on the Delta side in January. I'm not sure about newhire classes, but upgrade/transition classes have been put off until at least March.

Ok here's my analysis: It seems like Skywest has the market cornered despite mainline troubles. And to correct one thing, UAL has now exited BK, so only one of SKW's codeshares is in BK. But it seems that SKW has actually had some competition eliminated: They bought ASA, so now they basically do 50% of all Delta's regional work. Is something becomes good for ASA, it's now also good for SkyWest. Secondly, UAL dropped AWAC, and I think SKW has made up the slack for them out of ORD.
