Anyone know what the current flight training program is like at JU??? They have a partnership with DCA.

I use to go there and it is what you make of it. They are going to get some Cirrus planes next semester and from what I have heard they just jacked up the price. You get three days a week to fly for an hour and progress more through your ratings if you can stay during the summer. Also they are dealing with a shortage of CFI's like everyone else. If money is an issue definitely do your research because you are definitely not going to spend just $58,000 for all your ratings it will be more and JU is not a school where you get what you pay for.

DCA costs something like $90,000+ for all your ratings, plus you have to factor in that JU is a private college. I've done some personal research on DCA and many people who go there (the Sanford campus, at least) don't like it's rigid structure and "military-esque" qualities. You'd probably save a lot of money looking elsewhere.

Why do you care if you're flying the -400?

My nephew is a junior in high school and is interested in entering the aviation industry

I went to JU and the DCA there, and I spent about 40,000 there to get all my ratings. It depends on if you work hard and pass all of your stage checks. JU is a private university so it is expensive, but if you have good grades and high SAT score, they give plenty of grants.

Does anyone have updated information on JU? Any info on the new Cirruses, tuition costs, training, etc. would be great. I'm planning on going to JU or FCCJ this spring.

Thanks

There are some things currently going on with DCA/JU that would make me very concerned if I were just getting ready to start a training program there. PM me if you want more details... I'm happy to talk to anyone who's interested in info, just would prefer not to do it on a public forum.

You won't find a better faculty for aviation anywhere else in the country, even at my other Alma mater: Purdue. It has its ups and downs but you will learn from people who have done it and they'll bend over backwards to help you out. I'm no fan of DCA but my time here at JU has benefited me greatly.
