I bumped into FX guy in Teterboro (everyone's favorite place) at the Holiday Inn and he said he commutes from Kansas City to his DFW base. Was he pulling my leg? I'm considering a move to Flex and was hoping to commute to their FLL base from Tampa about a 3-4hr drive, but I was under the impression you have to live within an hour and a half drive of your assigned domicile.

Any FX guys have some insight here? Also do you get to choose your domicile or are they bid by seniority? Any moving assistance when you move to your new domicile?

I'm based in FLL. We do have guys that live in Orlando and as far away as St. Augustine. On midnight of your first day you have to be witthin 1&1/2 hrs of FLL. Most drive down and get a hotel or have a crashpad. I don't know what mgmt's philosophy is on hiring pilots not close to base but there are some. You can choose your domicile. There is a $4000 stipend available if you move to your domicile in the first 90 days of employment.

I was turned down on the phone last year by KP. I live in Orlando, and she said "I don't want to move forward" because she thought I lived too far from FLL. Depends on what mood HR is in I guess.......

Depends how many resumes they have - and right now they have tons. Plan on "moving" to FLL if you want the job. (Of course, you might choose to spend your days off at your vacation home in Tampa...)

The guys who commute were hired years ago - and many complain about the policy.
