Your a very experienced pilot...compared to your potential UPT classmates (They likely have never manipulated flight controls in their life)

This is ABSOLUTELY the wrong attitiude to go into UPT with! I'm not AF but I imagine that USN/USMC flight training is very similiar.

First off - there are some instructors that would just love to put some 1,000 hr civilian pilot in their place and I guarantee you that they would be able to because so much of the grading is subjective. Second - I had only 300 hours going into training and I found most of it enjoyable and kept a good attitude about learning to do things the NAVY way and passed with no problems - but I had never flown a turboprop or done formation flying or AOA landings for example. I felt that my flight experience helped me in Primary, but we were all equal once we got to the mighty T-2C (yes - back in the day)

Getting through UPT wouldn't be the only problem though. Right now in the training for fleet aircraft we have a 3,000+ TT former RJ guy/Caravan pilot doing very well. On the other hand we have TWO FORMER S-3 fleet experienced guys and another former corporate guy who not doing very well and it is still not sure that they will even pass the course. Like Slice said - attitude plays a major role!

Just an update for those of you who thought that you had it made if you had prior flight time.
One of those guys that I mentioned before is one step closer yet again to washing out; and he had a lot of hours before coming into the military. He might be able to fly point to point - but he is not making it in the tactical phases.

This is quite possibly the most ill-informed opinion about SUPT that I have ever read.

In my class, a COEX pilot with 4,000 hours nearly washed out of T-37s.

the handholding at UPT is what makes the program so easy. you just have to spit back out everything that they feed you. study the gouge. youll have no problems flying the airplanes.

the people who wash out take the program waaaaaay to seriously or have a lot going on in their lives to distract them. if you go in there knowing youre gonna get through, i promise you that youll look back and think it was easy.

remember. an airplane is an airplane is an airplane. you are a pilot, dont let these guys fool you. if you were going to fly fighters id tell you youre on the same page as everyone else, but since youre probably going heavies, youre way ahead of the pack.
