Cfi Training: Im Broke As A Joke

Whats up fellas, I received my multi comm cert in april and have an endorsement for SEL comm. Close to 300tt w/ 210 multi. About to lose instrument currency. I live close to IAH and am in need of some advice. Im going to get my cfi, but I want to stay away from another loan and Im just a young college student so im limited to low paying jobs. Its going to take around 5 months to save up for cfi training at $8 hr. Is there another way or something im missing out on? Pan am academy WAS offering an indentured servant deal for free cfi training. Is anyone still offering a deal like that?

My guess is that things are drying up for the big puppy mills dues to all the headlines about bankruptcy and furloughs. I suspect that anyone who relies on career-oriented students as their bread-and-butter will not be needing as many CFIs.

However, you might be able to find a small school or FBO in a remote area which caters to wealthier recreational flyers and make a deal with them. If they have only 1-2 CFI's they can suffer if that CFI gets hired away so it might be worth their while to train you in exchange for some period of service. If they will also employ you doing odd jobs around the FBO that will help with the income. Be wary of deals where you have to be available for walk-ins (ie at the field) without any guarantee of flight hours or pay.

Use the internet.
