/////////////Army Reserve Aviation Needs Pilots///////////////////////

We are inviting aviators from all services to join our Army Reserve Units, see attached map for a depiction of unit locations. Note that we are not the National Guard, we have full time and part time positions for rotor and fixed wing aviators and crewmembers.

We have:

UH60 VIP/assault/lift/MEDIVAC helicopters at: Ft. Hood TX, Ft. Bragg, NC, Clearwater FL, and Victorville, CA.

AH64D Longbow Apache Attack Helicopters at Conroe, TX (Houston) and at Ft. Knox, KY.

CH47 Chinook Lift Helicopters at Ft. Lewis, WA, Olathe, KS, Ft. Carson, CO, and Ft. Eustis, VA.

C-12 (King Air) Turboprop VIP transport and intelligence support fixed-wing aircraft at Los Alamitos, CA, Ft. McCoy, WI, Ft. Knox, KY, Johnstown, PA, Willow Grove, PA, Ft. Bragg, NC, and Ft. Rucker, AL.

UC35 (Citation V) Executive Transport jets at Ft. Hood, TX, Ft. Bragg, NC, and at Dobbins, GA (Atlanta).

(JCA) C27J are coming, locations planned are McChord AFB (Ft. Lewis, WA), and Ft. Bragg, NC.

We also have an Air Traffic Service Battalion as well at Ft. Rucker, AL.

Our Theater Aviation Brigade, 244th is moving from Ft. Sheridan, IL (Chicago), to Ft. Dix, NJ. We have staff positions available there.

Our Headquarters is here in Ft. Knox. There are also staff positions here at the 11th HQs.

For help in choosing a unit, please contact LTC McConnell, USAR AVN G1 at (502) 626 5687, or by email to: [email protected]

Our units are on a deployment cycle of once every 4-5 years, except portions of our fixed wing units continuously deploy for OIF (Iraq) and OEF (Afghanistan). For those deployments we are offering C-12 school on a limited basis; we are inviting all Army aviators to contact LTC Jim Sedlak at (502) 626 5685, or by email to: [email protected].

Fixed wing pilots from other services (Navy, Air Force) are invited to join us as well. We can help you process waiver requests as needed.

Senior officers (field grade) are invited to apply as well. We can support applications (reversion to) for Warrant Officer service, and re-application for Officer service upon completion of the deployment. For those field grade officers who are reaching their MRD, we would like to invite you to consider permanently reverting to Warrant Officer service. Warrant Officers have no service MRD like Officers, and can serve until age 60, or advanced to age 62 with an approved waiver request.

Is there an age limit?

Think you could expand more on the C-27 slots at Lewis / McChord (such as when and how many airframes)? I want to fly one of those in the future and would entertain any information that you have that is solid on the coming of those airframes to the Pacific Northwest.

Would they take a retired Navy CDR. (USNR) in his early fifties for this gig?
C-27 sounds cool.

Are you actually looking for C-12 guys at McCoy or did you just put that as one of the companys that the reserve has fixed wing aircraft at?

I tried to join the navy about 5 years ago to fly, and they wouldn't give me a flight slot since I wear contacts (corrected to 20/20).

Has that changed at all?

I'd consider it, but the Government still has a thing against hiring pilots with defective Color Vision. The Army sure wanted me to be a ground pounder for them though(back when I was in the service-something about cammo not working on guys like me)

I can't tell you how many guys I've talked to who took "no" for an answer because they failed the color vision portion of the initial flight physical. I failed it too, but a helpful opthamologist told me to ask for the "Farnsworth Lantern" test as an alternate when I got to the end of the line and saw a flight surgeon. Now if you can't pass the Farnsworth Lantern test, you probably shouldn't be driving a car!

Anyone know when this alleged C-27 unit at McChord is supposed to be standing up. I am in the Guard now, but would jump ship to get on that train.

I have passed the Farnsworth lantern, and have a SODA from a FAA flight test physical. The DOD just wanted me for ground ops'(cammo does not work so well with people like me ;-) ) Now I have reached an age where they consider me too old; that, can be a mixed blessing I guess.
