Job Description:

The Range Control Officer (RCO) is responsible for ensuring the safe movement of all air and ground traffic on the assigned manned weapons range. Provides general supervision of the assigned Range Tracker. Monitors the weapons delivery pattern(s) and ensures mission scoring accuracy. Operates UHF and LMR radio systems, Night Vision Goggle (NVG) equipment, telephone and range lighting. Knowledgeable of all applicable Air Force regulations and local Operating Instructions. Performs minor maintenance using hand tools to ensure the assigned range meets minimum USAF weapons safety standards. Documents and reports deviations to established range safety procedures. Maintains cleanliness of, and monitors the physical security of the buildings while on range. The ability to operate ultra-high frequency (UHF), very high frequency (VHF), citizen’s band (CB), frequency modulation (FM), and telephonic two-way communications equipment. A working knowledge of range scoring systems, range target systems, and emergency response actions. Familiarity with the general classes and types of aircraft and ordnance expected to be employed at the range and the general classes and types of pattern deliveries that may be employed. The ability to assimilate a variety of information in a dynamic environment and react with sound decisions and judgment while adhering to established practices and procedures. Physical Requirements: Vision correctable to 20/20 and the ability to distinguish primary colors. Normal depth perception. Full use of both hands and arms. Normal hearing. The ability to climb up steps to a height of 120 feet. The ability to lift dead weights up to 60 pounds. The ability to maintain civilian and government driver's licenses.
