I changed my username to protect the innocent. I need some advice...

I interviewed and was offered a job this week as a part-time pilot. Good company. Local. Nice people. Great planes and maintenance (it is a corporate PIC turbine job just so you have some specifics).

I just found out that I am pregnant with my second child and I am not too sure what to do. I won't be taking pay or benefits from the company when I am not working so it isn't a matter of stealing money from them, just a matter of having to take off the time to do the baby thing after they have shelled out the bucks to train me. I would plan to go back to flying after the baby though.

So, do I keep my mouth shut and roll with it or should I turn down the job?

Take the high road of honesty, integrity & character. Inform your employer that you are pregnant. Keep your conscience clear.

Most corporate flight depts hire because they like you and you fit the company attitude... Take the high road.. They will appreciate that quality and may not care..

In a perfect world you could be honest and not get scr*wed for it. But this may not be a perfect situation, although you said it was a good operation.

It's a tough call that I can't provide the answer to. I'd hate to tell you to be honest and then have you lose out because the employer uses your honesty against you just for their convenience.

Most states have some sort of protections for your situation, so check into that. I would also assume that pregnancy is a personal thing, and not really their business at this point.

I came clean on a deal and had it stuffed in my shorts.....I told the chief pilot I wasnt all that happy and was looking to the airlines.....I told him because it was a two pilot operation and if I was hired I would leave at a moments notice...so I did the standup thing and fessed up so the chief could start secretly looking for a replacement so as not to cause a disruption in the flight schedule..he went right to the top and told....I was very lucky not to get canned right away. I am starting to learn that you had better take care of # 1 cause no body else will.....I'm not in your shoes but maybe I have a point...I dont know.....its a tough spot.....you will have to feel them out and see what kind of people they are.....also, your a woman so it sould not surprise them that you might want to have kids....

Take the job. Pilots leave for all kinds of reasons. Who knows, you may be able to fly for 7 months or so. Their corp flying department may not even be around by then.

Women should not feel bad about working and getting (being) pregnant. Sure it is a burden for the employers of the world. But somebody has to have the children! It is just a cost of doing business. Let them deal with it.

ABSOLUTLY!!
Take the job, fly for however long you can, and tell them when they need to know. They only need to know when the pregnancy inhibits your ability to do the job they hired you to do. This isn't dishonest, or misleading, its business. Because you are just recently pregnant you have several months of good flying left! Show them that you are a good employee, and a good pilot. If they let you go after a few months because you are taking maternity leave, that is just plain wrong not to mention illegal.
