Hi all...I'm a UPS guy and I'm looking to jumpseat out of London Heathrow to somewhere on the east coast (Phl, jfk, ewr). I've never j/s internationally. I'm sure someone has successfully done that but does anyone know if there are any "gotchas" (anything different from US jumpseating) going through Heathrow (gate agents, security etc). I'm hoping to get on with an US carrier but does anyone know if Virgin and BA will let us jumpseat too??

No jumpseating on foreign carriers. Their own pilots can't even use the jumpseat in most cases!

Go to the ticket counter to pay the international taxes (that can be expensive). They will then give you a pass to get through security. I would go at least 2 hours prior to get listed on the flight for our friends at the TSA. They should be used to jumpseaters at Heathrow so no big deal.

At most airlines website you can see the number of seats available in the back (necessary since you can't sit up front). It can also be a good idea to post what flight you are thinking about getting and someone can check the loads and the number of non revs standing by - since you will be last to get on.

I have used Delta a few times and always had good luck with them.

When you say "no jumpseating on foriegn carriers" are you talking about the flt deck seats only or no jumpseating in the cabin either?

DAL - Flt 9 LHR-ATL (2pm departure)
DAL - Flt 2 LHR - JFK (5pm depart)
CAL - Flt 19 LHR - EWR (340pm depart)

Jumpseating does not exist outside the USA/Canada as we know it. (there are some very small exceptions) . So no jumpseating on flt deck or in the cabin. You have to get a ticket.

"no jumpseating on foreign carriers" means pretty much that. There are SOME that have it, but for the most part they simply don't allow it. You may hear of some guys getting lucky and being able to socially engineer their way to talk to the CA and get ride. But for the most part, don't count on them knowing what you are talking about.

If you were thinking about taking UAL, forget it. Just checked, their flights going to both ORD and IAD pretty much look bad. By that, I mean that the cabins are almost booked to capacity with non-revs listed.

Yes you can J/S on CAL Internationally and sit in the cabin if you are on our list.

I think WorldDC10 was referring to jumpseating on non-North American carriers.
