I like Volcker. Many of us remember the intense congressional / presidential / media pressure he was under to lower those rates. I remember him in a congressional hearing room being lambasted, then giving back better than he got. All the time he was (IIRC) blowing cigar smoke in those weenies' faces.

Yeah, I hope whoever's in charge has Volcker's guts when we need to spike rates again.
