I wouldn't call that "sneaky"; it's perfectly proper and a great idea to use it
if available. If the examiner doesn't want you to use it, it'll be switched off.
Just fly the way you've been trained; relax, especially during the oral. You won't get everything right either on the ground or in the air - just correct immediately and keep going. You wouldn't have been recommended if you couldn't do it.
