Yes we can. Our fingers were never in the room to touch the cookie jar and leave prints. When Delta merged with NWA certain agreements carried over. You seem to forget that NWA defends their turf tooth and nail. MKE is a great focus city for them. Why on earth do you think they wouldn't have gone for you and A. drive the purchase price for AAI higher or B. acquire majority stake and prevent AAI from coming in and bringing in a low cost carrier to drive yields down. Either way, you were in a precarious position. Following the credit debacle, high oil prices and falling economy, there was no way DAL vis-a-vis NWA could hope to retain their stake for a profit.
As others have said, you were a victim of your own management's incompetence and a victim of perhaps your own MEC's failure to put adequate protections in your own agreement with your airline.
