I am an engineer as you probably guessed from my name. I can't wait for the economy to pick up so I can quit my engineering job for full-time flight instructing. Man, I hate cubicles and working with pain in the you-know-what people. The big positive about it is that it provided me the dough to obtain the flying certs and it is a high demand job so I do recommend it!

Anyone who has gone to Kent State for aviation or knows anything about it please PM me, I'm starting this fall after some time there figuring out that what I am doing now is not for me. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

FYI, most engineers I know make between $40-$60K after having 10+ years of experience. So I'm going to go on a limb and say that many pilots with 10+ years of experience will make the same amount of money as an engineer with 10+ years of experience.

I got my first undergraduate in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle, and it did little for me. Good school but too specific and not useful to 99% of employers. A big disappointment. I later did some civil engineering but eventually went back and got an accounting degree (which is different but easier than engineering I believe) and eventually a CPA and it has been in much greater demand and more useful than engineering - from my experience. Get your tickets on the side from an FBO please!

FL CPA, is the undergraduate degree from ERAU pretty intense? How many hours do you have when you graduate? Multi?

It's easier than spelling...I'm just kidding. You can't do it for fortune and glory, you have to love it. I thought I just had to have an engineering degree to fly, but I ended up with a pre-law degree and I do just fine. I'd say just get the best grades you can and fly as much as possible. Nothing helps you "get" the concepts of flying like experience, and a steep learning curve is your greatest asset. Good luck.

Though kind of an old thread, I'll add my two cents. Maybe look into the military for flying. The military isn't for everyone but the flying is an experience you'll never get on the civilian side of things. The flying is free of charge, monetarily speaking, for you. I'm biased being a Navy pilot so I that might be a good direction to look into. Flying from the boat (the aircraft carrier) is as good as it gets I think

With a geniune interest and your level of mathematics and science, aviation concepts should come easy to you. Don't major in aviation. Get a degree in Hospital Admin or Architectural Engineering or something along those lines.
