Anyone have any luck with it? I was trying to get my dad a jeep wrangler for his 93 Chevy suburban. The dealership said only 4cyl engines like pt cruisers. Anyway no tree hugging for me.

Yes....I tried it and it worked wonderfully for me. There is no limit on the engine. The limits come from a minimum combined fuel rating (see fueleconomy.com) and then the NEW car you buy requiring at least a 4 combined mpg increase. There are many other good aspects to the plan too IMO. I got more for my turn in than I would have from private sale or turn in value.

Gosh, it is wonderful to support such things as a taxpayer. I won't be buying government motors at any price.

Agree.... If I didnt already own a relatively new Dodge 4 door W/HEMI, I'd go buy the biggest freaking gas burning FORD I could find.

The ones that will really lose will be the auto-dealers IMO. Once the money dries up, if they sold cars right before that point, the funds might already be gone and they will have to eat that $4500. Plus there's a chance the Gov't will deny some of the claims because they said they are changing the rules daily.

This program was highlighted on Fox News this morning.
It seems the dealers are wary of the program - but basically wary of the program due to its' success!

$1 billion dollars in the program, an average of $4000 dollars per vehicle, by 20,000 dealers nationwide equals about 12-13 cars per dealers available at the present financing. The particular dealer they interviewed sold that many vehicles under the program the very first day!

It seems the dealers think that the program is paperwork intensive and they worry that the program is ALREADY out of money and the gov't doesn't even know it. If that is the case - then the dealer is left holding the bag since they have basically fronted the customer the money already.

I thought I might have jumped in a little quick since I wasn't planning on getting a new car quite yet - but now I'm glad I went ahead and got my rebate.

You are one of the lucky few. I have been on the phone all morning and word is the program will be out of money by this weekend.

Good luck for anyone trying to buy a Toyota truck that qualifies. None left at any of the dealers around me.

Maybe when congress gets back from vacation they will look at another program of sorts....who knows.

I think the plan is ridiculous, using tax payer money to buy a car that is worth $800 for $4500 in the interest of getting gas guzzlers off the road. I think we have more important concerns than this, and I don't approve of my tax dollars in this program. our govt. = too much power/control . . .

Agreed. I wasn't looking to buy at this time - but once I learned of the program and it was worth it for me then I started looking last weekend. Then a dealer told me that they felt the program would run out of money quickly. I figured he was pressuring me a little so on Sunday I did some research myself and discovered that it was true; once the money ran out the program was over. Even yesterday I was thinking that I might have acted a tad to quickly and then this morning I saw the Fox News report and thanked my lucky stars that I acted when I did.
