Well, it just happed to me. I was first to reserve the afternoon jumpeat from MEM to DFW on Aug 7th - got it two weeks prior. Today I got a notification that I was bumped by a higher priority. I call Jumpseats and they said there are only 3 seats on the plane. 1 is an LCA, one is a pending cockpit captain's permission and the last is a crewmember who reserved it after me, but used business. The lady said she new about the problem, but there was nothing they could do about it and it was an ACP problem and they can't get a handle on it.

I always thought that staging and business were similar levels? I'm surprised that a business j/s would bump a staging j/s???

Business trumps staging if the aircraft seat configuration changes to less seats.

This may sound like a stretch but I think this is similar to our crew force using bots. A group has the bots, a group always uses business booking status. Both claiming nothing wrong with using them, Company needs to fix the problem if there is one.

The rest of the pilots have two options get a bot/ book business every time or risk getting hosed by earleir time stamp/ bumped.

It's a race to the bottom, who can exploit the system before the rest sign on.

I have been bumped several times by business guys when seat configuration changes. I booked business recently when I got the last seat. This really needs to be resolved.

A previous thread covered this. Apparently, the union suggested using business until this was fixed. Also, the no-foul rule may only apply to staging, not business.

Almost everyone I know books business. Why is it that everyone else in the company can book business and bump stagers but some think we pilots shouldn't book business? The only reason I'm going to and from Memphis is to move freight. I call that business! The jumpseat cancellation requirements are more lenient for business . The penalties for missing the jumpseat are more lenient for business. You have less of a chance of being bumped by some company employee going skiing on business status. Why would pilots not book business? I always thought the staging category was a bit of a pilot-harassment program anyway. I always ask if a seat is available before I book. If it's not, I find another way to work. I don't believe they will bump a stager if you are booking business and it's full.

I'm afraid if we complain too much, the rules will change so that we'll all be forced back to the lesser priority of staging. That will hose more of us in the long run.

If you have DH bank and JS instead of buying a ticket you can use business.

Staging give you the no harm no foul rule to fall back upon. If booked business and you miss then you did do harm and you might be fouled.
