FAA Class 1 Medical

Can someone tell me exactly what the FAA Class 1 Medical consists of?

Is there something I need to do to prepare for it?

I've only had 2, but so far, it has completely depended on the doctor giving it. On my first, the doc was very thorough. However, my last one was a joke (different doc). You don't need to prepare. Just bring your checkbook, eye glasses (if you wear them), a list of medicines you take, and know your medical history. Other then that, it's a pretty straight forward medical exam.

I know if you eat poppy seeds, it can show up as heroine or something. I saw it on Mythbusters.
No drug testing for the FAA medical, but companies will often (or are required to) conduct them. Drink before you go (officially the medical requires a urine sample), and bring your checkbook. You will have to fill out a form that covers your past medical history.

If you have had any significant health issues (hospitalization) you might also bring some documentation of those events (but don't offer it up unless asked to).

Here's a link to the current standards you must meet for a physical:

PS: Poppy seeds will give false positive results for opiates.

Thanks a bunch.

Note to self: Stay away from the poppy seeds.

The UA isn't for drugs, it is just a test of the protiens and to check for other normal things.

Excess sugar = potential diabetes. I believe that is the only thing they test the urine for.

121, 135, and some 91 employers I think are required to conduct a random urinalyses program for drug screening. They will also give you a pre-employment screening.

I was told that you would have to eat a ridiculous quantity of poppyseed bagels in order to test positive for herion or other poppy-derived narcotics. I avoid them anyway.
