The FAA just spent millions of dollars resurfacing RWY 27 at Memphis, but a former FDX employee claims that the runway is structurally unsafe. Why? Mr. Cobb alleges that a tunnel underneath RWY 27 was constructed improperly, and it is structurally unsafe for the larger and heavier cargo aircraft that FDX plans to use in the future.

Cobb’s report is very interesting reading. He has obtained pictures, mechanical diagrams, satellite photos, and other information to substantiate his claim.

Oh.. and by the way… Mr. Cobb was fired from FDX after pushing this issue.

OSHA is currently investigating this as a possible AIR21 case.

Maybe I should file a OSHA safety complaint after having to go up stairs this morning that were completely covered with a 1/2" of ice.

I regret I didn't tell the Captain "see ya - I'm heading back in" as we could have soooooo easily slipped and fell. Won't be surprised to read Flt Safety Reports about this in a few days.

If I had to do it all over again......

If we don't insist on a safe working enviornment (reporting hazardous conditions) we will never have a safe working enviornment. This goes hand in hand with calling in fatigued when you are fatigued.

You're right. I remember one of our EWR based captains doing a 2 & 1/2 gainer off the bottom step while deplaning on ice covered stairs in either ROC or BUF (I don't remember which.) Anyway, seems to me that he was out for almost a year, and to this day, his back is not quite right.

Purple cry-babies, complaining about stairs !

Ours can best be described as a ladder with rails, at least in the domestic system.

Just remember to maintain THREE points of contact. For your safety of course. Liability has nothing to do with it ...
