Thank goodness

1) no one was hurt
2) this didn't happen while airborne

Batteries blamed for blast at San Diego FedEx
(AP) – 34 minutes ago
SAN DIEGO — San Diego authorities say a package explosion at a FedEx warehouse appears to have been sparked by batteries and was not intentional.
City fire spokesman Maurice Luque (loo-KAY') says two lithium batteries in a box made contact and exploded shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday at the building in the Miramar neighborhood.
However, FedEx Corp. spokesman Rob Boulware says the batteries were nickel-cadmium.
Police Lt. Dan Christman say employees who were sorting packages were about 6 feet away from the cardboard box when it exploded. They reported a flash and a smell like gunpowder, but nobody was hurt.
The building was evacuated until a police bomb squad determined the cause of the blast.
Boulware says the only damage was to the package, and FedEx is working to identify the shipper.

Just finished reading the article as well. Not one word from the company...yet.

I saw the article..
..checked PFC website...nothing
..checked this website...already posted.

no wonder folks rely more on this site than our own for info and gouge. Hopefully some info will be forthcoming--and quickly!!

This never would have happened if those rampers were parked in the right parking lot!

I bet those rampers were wearing their parkas and some kind of crazy cowboy boot.

Explosion occurred almost 9 hours ago. Still no word from the company. I'm sure there was no threat to the aircrews.

Safety First???

What do you want them to put out?

There is and always will be a threat to aircrews. Unless they physically open every package, something will get packed incorrectly or won't be declared.

There are a lot of things to harass the company about...I don't think this is one of them.

How do they control undeclared on improperly packed haz?
