Actually, I fly out of Alaska regularly and the controllers there are extremely helpful.

In my short 20 years of this, I've heard American Airlines pilots being absolutely nasty to controllers--telling them what clearances they are going to fly with total disregard to other traffic in the vicinty (SJU, LAX and the recent emergency at JFK).

The controllers coffee might be nice to him, but they do an outstanding job separating all the military, commercial, sightseeing, SAR, and Indian Country traffic that is common in and about Alaska.

Speaking of attitudes, I distinctly remember reading about a TWA pilot acting like a crybaby back when they didn't know how to get oceanic clearances. "Gander, we got our clearance right here that SAYS we're cleared to JFK-CDG as filed! Whaddayamean, oceanic clearance??" Oh that was rich.

Also heard a UPS pilot have an attitude the other night with Denver Center trying to get a direct... and then he tried to blame the AA-TWA acquisition when the controller refused him... said something to the effect of, "Before I was screwed over by AA, I ALWAYS got directs from you guys!"

The bull$hit flows both ways, my friend. Back on your meds!

I heard that story, over a decade ago---and it was distinctly a DELTA pilot in the tale. You'd be hard up to find TWA pilots who didn't know how to fly across the Atlantic, since they started doing it in 1942.
