As a tag-on to Shaggy's post and thanks to my wonderful accountant:

As of the last retirement announcement….

2010 (remaining to retire) 4
2011 44 – 1 = 43 (you have told me about 3 guys retiring early, here is 1)
2012 49
2013 43 – 2 – 41 (here are the other 2)
2014 47

Total 184

1950 (2015) 36
1951 (2016) 47
1952 (2017) 55
1953 (2018) 60
1954 (2019) 74
1955 (2020) 95

Not a whole lot of retirements (seniority movement) and one can wonder if freight will start to migrate off UPS airplanes to other modes of transportation and space on other carriers after the recent security incident.

You might as well add to this post that UPS is moving toward bigger and fewer aircraft requiring fewer pilots. UPS may see some changes in the numbers required due to regulatory or contract changes but, the retirement numbers are about it for progression.

Crap Shaggy,

25 years out includes me, and my furlough was just recently "suspended" ...

So for the younger crowd, don't think everyone of those retirements is going to create a left seat vacancy.

Another tid-bit is the fact that the AVG age of pilots is 49. So we have a very young seniority list by all accounts.

One thing that I did not take into account in my numbers is normal attrition, by deaths, loss of license and so on. It seems to me that we lose about 15-25 a year for that. So in other words unless something drastically changes in the future you can plan on being a F/O here at UPS for almost 20 Years.

I guess what I am trying to tell you is that you have a better chance of dying then you do upgrading! LOL Sad but true! The 2012 Age 70 push is a great one and I started crying cause its so sad!

I never figured on upgrading when I came here to begin with ... but the last 2 years has been painful !

At least I have stayed off of food stamps and unemployment, for now !

SO ... I take it you don't believe that smoke about needing to hire 500 if the NPRM passes ? Neither do I !
