Go read the AT/SWA Merger posts in Major.

Not the happiest place on earth for a long time even if you get based in Orlando.

Be careful.

Didn't it take about a week after the window closed last time before people got calls?

Keep in mind, last time:
6500 applied, less then 300 interviewed, and approx 100 were hired.

If you want to work for SWA then apply. You will only get swept up in this mess if you choose to get involved. The guys with issues are mainly the junior CAs and senior FOs. I am a junior FO at AT and while the newhires will probably be making more money than me (thanks to the B scale), everyone realizes they have no role in the SLI and harbor no animosity towards them. They will have been hired at SWA during very competetive times. Congrats. I will say that upgrading at SWA is going to take a loooooong time.

I agree 100% with my future co-worker. It is so easy to complain on the Internet. While every group on each side has things in the agreement and process that they don't like, it is only a very small group of people that are the most vocal about all this. Not to mention the outsiders that seem to just like to stir the pot.

As for life at SWA? It's fun, great people, fun flying, but they will work your butt off. If you live in domicile, QOL will be better. Junior bases out west, and I would expect to spend a few years there. No way to know at this point how many of the AirTran folks will move west, or what SWA will do with new bases and base sizes. Bottom line to me is that it's hard to know what bases junior folks will be able to hold until the integration is complete. And yes, upgrade times will be long, but how long, no one at this point knows. Management is great at keeping information "close hold" and very little information is leaking out, and a lot of that contradicts other info, so no one knows what is coming next.

Don't get sucked in by the 10% (from both sides), if you want to be here, have a good attitude and realize we all view things slightly different and we all have things we can learn from each other, both professionally and personally.

Good luck to everyone, keep posting as the process continues.

Great post! I do not believe that many years of FO at LUV would be a bad thing.

For any SWA folks, as a newhire what are the chances of getting Oakland if desired (coming from someone who lives in the South-Bay)?

Quote: Nothing here...man, this is like waiting for Christmas!
It's only like waiting for Christmas if one is lucky to be on of the roughly 4.6% of applicants that got called and were one of the 33% of that 4.6% that were accepted and waiting on a class date.

Or to make the numbers more depressing, one of the 1.5% of applicants that were accepted.
