DSM Area

New to the DSM area and looking for any leads or information anyone knows about. I know this is the "insurance capital" of the world, so has to mean a lot of small to midsize corporate flight deptartments, right? Looking to continue the path of gaining more hours, currently around 500 TT with 250 ME. Anyone know much about the area? Thanks in advance!

I thought Hartford, CT was the "insurance capital of the world"?

Considering Bradley airport, near Hartford, has a road called Insurance Way; I suspect Hartford is the "insurance capital". Road goes to three insurance company flight departments, CIGNA, Mass Mutual and Travelers.

Just curious, but how the heck do you already have 250 ME?! Honestly, not trying to flame.

Got on with a company after licenses were earned, and got checked out for PIC in their aircraft. Fairly lucky, but it only lasted for a short amount of time because of the industry.

Thanks Gabe! That's a solid start, but my guess is that those guys are big players just by the names. Anyone know of any smaller operations who would consider someone like me? Thanks for all the information ahead of time guys! Cheers

I grew up in DSM. Good luck finding a job with only 500 TT, I doubt you will. No offense big dog it's just that the guys that I had as flight instructors weren't flying 135 until around 1000 hours I believe. I have an ex flight instructor that does a lot of the flying out of Ankeny. They have two King Air's and two Navaho's. Check out Mid America Jet Center at DSM, sometimes they hire. There isn't much there I'm afraid. I'm in Texas now....much better here. You might end up being a flight instructor at Ankeny. I got my PPL there. Great people.

I live in DSM and you probably don't have a chance with many companies. You could get a job flight instructing around here, but a corporate jobs are pretty tight.

Where are these flight instructing jobs you speak of?
