Yup. Everything on hold for training this summer. The app pool will be dumped. All must reapply this summer for fall classes.

Forget competitive, what were the most recent minimum requirements? Do they have a PIC or ATP "must check" box?

Additionally, do Alaska pilots have any scope protection against having their flying farmed out beyond the current 70 seat level?

Alaska scope language is embarrassingly weak:

All Flying: All flying as set forth in Section 2 [Flight Pay], now or hereafter conducted by, or which hereafter becomes available to the Company (including utilization of aircraft under the operational control of the Company) shall, if flown by the Company, continue to be performed by pilots on the Alaska Airlines Pilot System Seniority List. This paragraph [1.B.1.] places a mutual obligation on the Company and the Pilots.

I was worried about ^that. Had a long chat with a couple of Alaska guys in Guadalajara one afternoon and when I asked them about scope (the SKYW thing had recently happened), they looked at each other and back at me and said "scope?"

I had to explain what it meant. It's funny how you forget to look outside your immediate situation in this business--scary stuff. May I (very humbly) suggest that if you are an Alaska pilot you call your union rep immediately and find out if a stronger clause is in the works. You know they make a hundred seat "regional jet" now, right?

Believe me, the SKW deal emphasized the importance of scope to the Alaska pilot group.

Thank the lawd. And thanks for the information; Alaska is surprisingly underrepresented in the rumor mill.

Alaska Airlines Takes Off From Philly

Airline offers new service at a low introductory cost

Alaska Airlines is coming to Philly.
advertisement Starting in June a new airline will be taking off from Philadelphia International Airport.
Alaska Airlines starts non-stop service between Philly and their hub in Seattle (don’t ask us why Alaska Air is based in Washington State) on June 11, the airline announced Tuesday.
“Philadelphia is one of the largest cities we don’t currently serve from Seattle…” said Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing. “We’re excited to be bringing our award-winning customer service to the ‘City of Brotherly Love.’”
The new service from J.D. Power and Associates’ No. 1 airline for customer satisfaction four years running could also give an economic boom to the region.
“Philadelphia International Airport has again delivered with the start of service by a new airline,” said Mayor Michael Nutter. “We welcome Alaska Airlines to Philadelphia, and I am proud that we can offer even more choices for travelers. This new West Coast service is great for our economy and shows that Philadelphia is the place to do business.”
And with that west coast service is coming a special deal. From June 11 to July 11, non-stop service from Philly to Seattle is $190 each way if you book before Monday.
