I am just curious to know which routes you all took to pursue your Aviation careers. Pretty simple question.

Civilian. Learn at the local airport. CFI. Traffic watch. Corporate. Regional airline. Major airline. Got 4 year degree. Did masters online while at regional. Had 4,000 hours when hired at regional at age 29. Had 10,000 hours when hired at major at age 39. It's a long route.

Military enlisted and worked on all my ratings before my EAS. Started as a CFI one day after my EAS while on terminal leave. All of my ratings were done at an FBO as opposed to a flight academy or "glossy brochure" establishment.

Hired by a regional around 1200 hours or so and then hired by a major airline at a little over 4000 hours.

Learned to fly in a C-172 with the Chief of Police. Loved it so much I went back to college to get a degree and joined the Navy through Aviation Officer Candidate School. 20+ years in Navy jets helped to develop the antipathy towards kittens that just got me hired at SWA.

Did it through the backdoor. Was a helicopter mechanic in the Army, worked on choppers after I got out and then got my ppl. Worked for a freight dog outfit and got hired s a pfe, then eventually finished all the ratings and went right seat. Now work for a legacy and am hoping for the left seat in 2 or 3 years.
