I've heard very little about these chaps, but I did all my flying out of Shanghai. At any rate, if anyone has not seen the VOR pay rates as of late, this is fairly similar.

Contract company is in China, 'smile-aviation' of all thing's, and they appear to have a number of contracts available. I might be tempted to stick with VOR if they covered the airline in which I was interested though.

At any rate, re-posted below for your perusal.

Good old communists bringing up pilot T&C's eh. . . who'd have thought a decade ago. Good thing I like dumplings.

Just spoke with a buddy who's still up at China Cargo, turns out the ex-CP of GWL, Cao Gang, is running the show at SF. Very nice guy, very easy to get along with and I enjoyed working with him. So, perhaps something there.

Best of luck.

Hi Koru:

I might be meeting a friend at SF for lunch or dinner tomorrow in HKG. I have his original contract, which shows lower total pay. I'm pretty sure he told me they got a pay raise a few months back, but I'll have to clarify. In any event the SF contract is gross, before Chinese taxes are paid. I posted this on PPrune ( breaking my PPrune no post rule because some guys were arguing about the after tax or not point ). In the contract I have it clearly states that the pay rate is pre-tax. I suspect Smile's info is wrong.

Also, I wouldn't go through any agent. You can go to SF direct.

Thanks TP. Very good, I didn't realize you could go direct. GWL was direct and worked out nicely.

Other than tax, it is of note that these big numbers will be brought down with 'safety violations', or FADP busts which are almost inevitable.

The Boeing reps in Beijing told us that Seattle had told them to ignore the hard landing FADP as the parameters were suspect. No matter, you'll get charged regardless. Cao Gang knows this, so perhaps a chat before signing a contract.

I'd be interested to see what your friend ends up paying in tax. The way we worked it, using much of the pay as allowance and bonus, the tax rate was about 20%.

Nope, not that I know of anyway.

Didn't meet that friend Koru. He went to Macau so I missed him this time around. I'll try to get the info from him via e-mail.

I'd appreciate that TP. . . thanks a bunch.

These numbers out of China are very big for contracts, I have a heap of guy's asking me since I flew one, so I'm trying to piece together just what the reality is when you look at the pay 365 day's down the road.

Again, GWL was excellent, but it was run by a great guy from SQ. The pay was what was advertised, which rather good.

What are the F/O contracts?

I'm not sure there are any up for grabs Olympic but I'll see if I can find out from Cao Gang what the story is exctly.

Many of the companies in China are Cpt. only, but there are some for FO's. Best to get a command somewhere, get 500 hrs and then go as a skipper; you'll fare much better and be much happier.

Hi typhoonpilot,
do you have an email where I can contact SF cargo directly? I tried through Smile aviation, but they don't seem to be in a hurry. Thanks.
