Mama has decided it is time to move back to the lower 48. What is the best option for moving back to CONUS? The only options I know are POD type companies or van lines. What have others found to be the best choice?

I don't want to take the FDX move package because I don't want to transfer back to MEM

ANC move package doesn't have the 100 mile limitation. They move you to your new domicile or the equivalent $$.

I think he meant that he doesn't want to transfer bases. I think he plans on commuting to ANC.

I moved from Seattle to Miami last summer and used PODS. It was the most cost effective way. I hired some moving guys to pack the PODS and they did a great job fitting everything into the 2 big PODS I rented. I also hired a couple of guys at the backend to help me unload. BTW, I was able to talk the guy down in price a little bit. It doesn't hurt to try. Good Luck!

Sell everything except what you normally carry on your trips. You'll be more flexible that way when the SHTF, economically speaking.

Go read the Contract! The 100 mile limitation does apply unless you went to ANC prior to the 96-01 bid

Maybe you should do some reading.

I moved myself to ANC in 2003, prior to the move package LOA. In 2006 I took a company paid move after bidding back to MEM. The company paid for my move to a location greater than 100 miles to MEM.

And the change came with the -- wait for it --- OCT 2006 Contract!

No the change came with the LOA that was then included in the 2006 contract. I don't remember the date of the LOA but it was after 2003 and before the 2006 contract.

My point is you are spouting off to go read the contract at the same time you are providing incorrect information in your post.

As much as I despise MEM, I think commuting to ANC would really blow.

Read it yourself and tell me where I'm wrong.
