04-22-2024Officers Richard Halford and Shawn Smiley of the Atlanta Police Department Air Unit were killed in a helicopter crash on November 3, 2012, in Atlanta. Officer Halford had been a pilot for the unit for 16 years. Officer Smiley was newer to the air unit, and had (I believe) been a pilot at American Eagle prior to joining the police department, based on what I could find on the internet.
