Stars and Stripes is reporting he was on 10 mile final for Bagram when he crashed.

Lots of terrain out there, and it's common on vectors to that location to end up quite close to the terrain. A valley leads into Baghram, but Iv'e been even with and below the terrain during vectors, day and night. Lots of things to hit, and lots of things to hit you.

What kind of low-vis/night optics are available to fighters these days? Do Vipers have FLIR/Thermal imaging, etc for navigation?
