On the airbus fleet at DL, virtually everyone loses the headset right at 18,000 feet and puts it back on right at 18,000 feet on the way down on all but the shortest flights. The oldest 320s are louder, but that's not wind noise, it's the recirc fans.

And thats how I maintain total unobstructed cohesiveness.

Where is the new job at? If you make it airline specific you would be able to get some better responses, as far as culture and all.

Pogey, F9! thank you for asking.

Ok, unobstructive cohesiveness was fair game, I admit

after aircraft carriers and locomotives I need to preserve whats left of my hearing

Plenty quiet in the bus and F9 doesn't fly it fast enough most of the time to worry about excessive noise up front. You'll be just fine.

Awesome phrase. It seems like it could have been a quote from Dr. Strangelove, like, "precious bodily fluids."

I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion, and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

I wear the Telex 850 ANR the entire flight. And I don't think anyone cares if you wear it all day long.

The A320 is a quiet cockpit, but I flew it my first year with headsets off above 18k and on below 18k. Then I got the 850 ANR and have flown it now for another year and I must say I noticed a significant reduction in noise with this headset. I'm happy with this. 36 years of professional flying left (hopefully) which means protecting hearing is of utmost importance.

I love having great conversation in cruise about all manner of things, but I,ve always done it through a boom mike and a high quality ANR headset.

I also admit I like hearing ATC in the same way and responding with a simple push to talk button as opposed to a speaker and hand mike. Seems less stressful and feels like less work.
You can't force the guy sitting next to you to wear a headset too. With a Telex 850, I can still hear the other guy like normal. I keep the radios down (usually down to almost minimum because with the headset on, that's all you need). To talk to ATC, I use the headset boom and push to talk trigger. To talk to the other pilot I just talk like normal. It works fine with that way with the Telex 850.

Quote: Really? I think I'd be more focused on flying a nice jet and being the best FO you can be. Headset protocol should be way down your list at this point.

If all else fails, do what he does.
Have you seen his list? Do you know that this is number one on it? He asked a simple question. Don't answer it if you don't like it.

If all else fails buzzpat, don't be a dikc.
